May VIRTUAL Walk & Newsletter

Join us again in May for another Virtual Folksmarch!

On the specified days (i.e. May 16 or 17) or any day that’s convenient, you go for a walk at a location of your choice. It could be in your neighborhood or a favorite spot that you drive to, while practicing social distancing and being careful to avoid contact with anyone. You could even choose to walk on your home treadmill. Once completed, provide some information like your name, where you walked, the distance, and hopefully a photo or two. Better yet, post on our social media sites and use the hashtags #covid19 #cnyfolksmarch #virtualwalk2020

Please submit by May 20th to cnyfolksmarch@gmail.com your walk write-up and photos.

April VIRTUAL Walk & Newsletter

This April join us for our first ever Virtual Folksmarch!

Talk about positive thinking….we folksmarchers have an opportunity to do something new and exciting while continuing to follow Governor Cuomo’s directives to all New Yorkers.

Rather than gathering at a facility and taking any chances on furthering the spread of Covid19, we plan to have a virtual walk. This will be in place for at least April and May and possibly beyond.

Here’s how it works:

On the specified days (i.e. April 18 or 19) or any day that’s convenient, you go for a walk at a location of your choice. It could be in your neighborhood or a favorite spot that you drive to, while practicing social distancing and being careful to avoid contact with anyone. You could even choose to walk on your home treadmill. Once completed, provide some information (see below) and hopefully a photo or two. The photos and comments will be posted on our social media accounts, along with as many articles as possible in Footnotes.

There will be no charge for the virtual walk at this time, and everyone who participates will receive their commemorative pin the next time we are able to gather. Obviously, this isn’t the same or nearly as social as actually getting together and sharing a walk in the same location, but during these difficult times it seems like a great alternative.

We look forward to getting back to our regular walks and finding some new exciting locations, but until then….this is a great way to keep going with a positive outlook and a way for us all to keep connected during these uncertain, difficult, isolating times.

To write about your walk and submit pictures, please submit by April 20th to cnyfolksmarch@gmail.com. Include the following:

  • Name(s)
  • Location of your walk
  • Distance walked
  • What you saw
  • Likes/Dislikes
  • Any other comments

September Walk, Picnic & Newsletter

The September walk will be at the Port Byron Erie Canal Heritage Park from 8am – 11am on Saturday 9/14 and 1-3pm Sunday 9/15.

We will also continue our tradition of having a Folksmarch picnic. This year it will be at Schasel Park in Port Byron on Saturday, September 14. Hot dogs, hamburgers and drinks will be provided. Please bring something to share. There is a shelter at the park so we’ll have the picnic rain or shine.
